Home Service Business Tips For Today’s New Reality

We must all adapt to a new business model, since there are now severe long-term downtrends for many industries.

Necessary service businesses, like plumbers, HVAC shops, landscapers and auto repair shops can update their business model and procedures to provide better protection to clients and staff, and be able to continue doing business until this crisis is resolved.

Our Recommendations:

  • Make sure your website is mobile-friendly and secure (with “https://”).  This will encourage clients to do virtual business with your company and keep everyone safer.
  • Use a computer for your business.  A laptop that you can carry back & forth to work is a good idea; a desktop at work is better.  You can acquire solid used computers at a fraction of the price of new ones.
  • We recommend Discount Electronics in Austin.  Don’t cripple yourself with just a cell phone to run your business.
  • Creating a detailed Intake Form on your website can help minimize personal contact when estimating your services & parts.
  • Consider a Chat feature on your website for more personal interactive client contact.
  • Fixed Cost Lists can be a great tool to have on your site, to minimize client inquiries.
  • Consider a secure, mobile payment solution for your services (Stripe, for example) to eliminate cash transactions and direct contact with clients.
  • Capture all client emails, and send them coupons as well as your blog posts, or seasonal tips or offers. Treat your client email list like gold, and send them a referral offer twice a year.

Of course, follow social distancing and sanitation guidelines, and think about how your business can avoid person-to person contact as much as possible.

If clients feel you are protecting them and your staff, they are more likely to do business with you.  Mary and I will continue to keep you informed about better ways to do business at this time.
